Meta ad account disabled? Identify your restriction before you appeal
“Your ad account has been disabled” is the message; the problem underneath varies. Meta has four different restriction layers, and appealing the wrong one wastes your review — sometimes your only review.
The four restrictions (find yours)
- Ad account disabled — one ad account is off; Business Manager and page still work. Usually policy flags or payment failures on that account.
- Business Manager / portfolio restricted — everything under the business is limited. Usually business verification or accumulated violations across assets.
- Personal advertising access revoked — YOUR profile can't advertise anywhere, even on other accounts. Usually identity or trust flags on the person.
- Payment/billing hold — ads paused for failed charges or payment risk. The fastest to fix, the most often misdiagnosed as a ban.
Check Account Quality (business.facebook.com/accountquality) — it names which asset is restricted and usually offers the Request Review button.
The first 24 hours
- Do NOT open or borrow another ad account. Ban evasion converts recoverable restrictions into permanent ones.
- Identify the restricted layer (above) and the cited policy, even when it's vague.
- Fix what's fixable first: valid payment method, landing page live and matching the ads, business info consistent across BM, page and website.
- Prepare verification documents BEFORE requesting review: legal name and address must match everywhere — mismatches cause silent rejections.
- Submit one factual, policy-referenced review request. No begging, no threats, no essays.

- Can I just run ads from a new ad account while I wait?
- No — that's circumvention under Meta's policies and the most common way a temporary restriction becomes a permanent, network-wide ban. Accounts are linked by payment methods, domains, pages and people.
- How long does a Meta review take?
- Hours to weeks. Identity or business verification adds time, and a document mismatch (name on ID vs. Business Manager) causes silent rejections — prepare documents before submitting.
- My account says "disabled" — is that final?
- Usually not. Most disables include a Request Review path with a time window (often 180 days). What is final: wasting your one review on an incomplete, angry or evasive submission.
